Research Creation

The ‘research creation’ paradigm is particularly appropriate for the project. That is, where creative practice is integral to the research methodology of the project. The tool and the creative targets co-evolve together. Here, the tool is the Funiki engine, and the targets are ambient experiences across varying contexts of use. Unlike projects with concrete initial goals, Funiki grows in the direction of intuition about what the system could and should be, and part of this growth is refining this intuition over time through creation.

When it comes to the use of AI, we want to focus on understanding the support that different types of creators might need. AI serves as an additional tool that needs to be iterated on and refined along with the rest of the Funiki engine. The ultimate goal of the project is to support open-ended generation allowing non-technical users to create ambiences and opening the door for real-time applications.
